Stray Blade will focus on exploration and fast-paced, challenging combat. His misadventure has drawn the attention of other factions to the Vale and are vying for dominance within it, but he is now bound to the place by the fragments in his body and has no choice but to explore Acrea. Farren is rescued by Boji, a small creature with wolf-like features. However, he accidentally destroys the 1000-year-old magical barrier that separates the place from the rest of the world and a fragment of the land pierces his heart. In Stray Blade you play the anthropologist Farren, who is the first inhabitant of his fantasy world to discover the mystical valley of Acrea. The combat looks fun already, it gives off this Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning vibe to it somehow rather than a soulslike, but if the changing world and the progression system tied to weapon mastery works as intended, this game is worth keeping an eye out for.In the course of Spring Showcase out of 505 games new game scenes and info on the single player action RPG Stray Blade presented by the Berlin studio Point Blank Games. Stray Blade has a lot more going on outside of its very familiar third-person action-adventure exterior. You will have to scour the lands for materials to craft the weapons though.Īlso, you can make use of magical abilities, which are useful during combat as well as exploration, giving you reasons to backtrack to past locations. And you can always return to your favourite weapon. This way, you are encouraged to give different weapons a shot, at least enough to open up the skill tree and get the skills you want from it. Instead, each weapon has a mastery tied to it, and when mastered, unlocks a portion of the skill tree. This is not a loot game where you’ll be switching to a weapon with a slightly bigger number to get stronger. Having an open-world full of checkboxes to tick is something Stray Blade intentionally wants to avoid, an applaudable goal to have in a modern video game.Īnother trick to Stray Blade is in how weapons are tied to progression. So in death, the world change is further accelerated. When you die, Boji will haul your dead body to the nearest respawn location, and that takes time. Time also passes when you’re left for dead. So backtracking to previous locations doesn’t feel like re-clearing the same outpost like most open-world games. A camp full of enemies you cleared will over time be retaken by another faction (which can also be a different type of enemy). Not its geography, but rather who inhabits it. Over time, part of the world will change. In particular how the world is a bit more dynamic. While this seems like a very generic action-adventure game with its premise, at the 505 Games Showcase Spring 2022 show, more details of Stray Blade has emerged and surprisingly it has some cool tricks up its sleeves. Aided by your companion Boji, you are off on a quest to explore the world for answers. Stray Blade has you play an adventurer who is stuck in some forgotten land called Acrea, and by stuck, we mean magically bounded to the land. At the 505 Games Spring 2022 Showcase, more details have been shared on the upcoming action-RPG title from developer Point Blank Games titled Stray Blade.
